Cathy Tam

Cathy is a 3rd-year undergraduate student currently studying at UC Davis, majoring in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology as well as Cell Biology. She is a proud transfer student and studied at Chabot College in Hayward California for the first two years of her undergrad.
Previously, she had completed research for UMN’s ATP-BIO REU program, where she studied the formation of iron oxide nanorods and their use in rewarming  cryopreserved organs and tissue at UC Riverside’s Department of Chemistry.
At the Gliomics lab, Cathy hopes to learn and improve her technical lab skills and to develop a greater understanding of the role of microglia in protecting the nervous system, as well as how genetics tie into the bigger picture of immune responses within the nervous system.
Cathy is passionate about education and how it can empower marginalized communities. She hopes to be a high school teacher or a community college professor in the future. In her free time, Cathy often finds herself cafe-hopping, crocheting, knitting, and birdwatching!
